Efficiency of Nets and a New Device for Sampling Living Fish Larvae

Abstract
Mortality of fish larvae when collected with a plankton net was shown to increase with the velocity of water moving through the net. In addition, the net retained fewer larvae at higher velocities. A device was designed and tested which efficiently concentrated living fish larvae at low velocities and reduces collection mortality. Key words: fish larvae mortality, plankton nets, new sampler.
