Abstract
Parcel et al in their article "A Comparison of Absentee Rates of Elementary Schoolchildren with Asthma and Nonasthmatic Schoolmates" (Pediatrics 64:878, 1979) report that schoolchildren with chronic disease will be absent more than their healthy peers. School districts provide homebound instruction for students who because of permanent severe defects are unable to attend school and others who are temporarily incapacitated. Since the cost is borne by the district, a waiting period is required to control the number of students receiving homebound instruction. Keywords
