Abstract
Relationships between cancer and aging will assume greater scientific importance over the coming decades as the number and proportion of elderly increase. Contrary to popular belief, cervical cancer remains an important disease into old age. This paper will briefly review what is known about immune senescence, cervical cancer and immune function, and the relationship between human papilloma virus and immunity, to support the hypothesis that these factors may contribute to the continued occurrence of invasive cervical cancer in the elderly. Keywords
