Fluid Mechanics of Copper

Abstract
Under pressure of sufficient magnitude, a metal such as copper can be considered to be an inviscid compressible fluid specified by an experimentally determined Hugoniot curve. This paper indicates the calculations necessary to solve the elementary problem of flow of an arbitrary fluid around an infinite wedge. The results are displayed in the form of graphs. A graphical solution is indicated for a problem involving impact of a conical projectile with a target. Agreement has been obtained between the theoretical and experimental results.
