Abstract
Two probability density functions (pdfs) for the power from a Rayleigh target are compared empirically. Swerling's one-dominant pdf is shown to be approximately valid for a unit dominant-to-background scatterer power ratio. The power form of the Rice pdf is used to define the input signal fluctuations in the calculation of detection probability.Keywords
