Abstract
Studied the effect of 2 competing messages presented simultaneously from different loud-speakers. Found that calls from an idle speaker tended to capture S's attention even when the call was irrelevant. When conversations were heard between calls there were more errors when 2 numbers synchronized than when a number was masked by a name. Variation in the number of idle speakers and various arrangements of the speakers appeared to have no effect. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved)
