Thioflavin T Fluorescence in Membranoproliferative Glomerulonephritis

Abstract
Paraffin-embedded renal biopsy material from 50 cases of membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis (MPGN) was studied by thioflavin T staining and electron microscopy. Glomerular capillaries showed bright diffuse linear thioflavin T fluorescence in all cases of MPGN type 2 and also in some cases of MPGN types 1 and 3. This pattern of fluorescence appears to be related to the extent of intraglomerular deposits, rather than their location or nature.
