Abstract
The 58 ex-stutterers, 43 males and 15 females, who were interviewed for this study credited their recovery from stuttering to such factors as speaking more slowoy, thinking before speaking, achieving greater self-confidence, becoming more aware of the problem, speaking more deliberately, and relaxing. All recoveries were reported to be gradual process which could occur at any age. A slightly greater number of subjects reported recovery as they approached adolescence between the ages of 13 and 16. Early recovery appears to lead to more complete fluency. Keywords
