Abstract
The radiation by a thermal distribution of plasma oscillations in a bounded plasma in a magnetic field is calculated in the limit (ωc/ωp)½ « 1, where ωc and ωp are the cyclotron and plasma frequencies. The calculation is performed in two ways leading to the same result: (1) a ``Fresnel formula'' for ratio of the intensity of the electromagnetic wave transmitted through the plasma boundary to the intensity of an incident plasma oscillation is derived; (2) the decaying modes, satisfying a radiation condition at infinity, of a bounded plasma in a magnetic field are found. The results are compared with the synchrotron radiation by a plasma in a magnetic field. It is found that for a thermal distribution of plasma oscillations, the radiation due to plasma oscillations is small compared to the synchrotron radiation. Keywords
