Abstract
MOST sheep flocks in the UK experience cases of mastitis, but the annual incidence is very variable ranging from 1 to 15 per cent. On average, lowland lamb-rearing flocks experience four to five cases of mastitis per 100 ewes, with hill flocks usually having a lower incidence. This article discusses the management of both acute and chronic ovine mastitis and highlights the importance of prevention in controlling the disease. Keywords
