Fundus Camera Holography of Retinal Microvasculature

Abstract
An improved method for obtaining holograms of the retina of living animals has been developed. A continuous wave argon ion laser, pulsed with an acoustic shutter, is used in conjunction with a modified Zeiss fundus camera. The laser energy levels on the retina are below established safe levels. The advantages of the method are the ability to determine the exact area of the fundus of which the hologram is to be made, easy adaptability of existing ophthalmic equipment to make holograms, demonstration of three dimensions within the retinal layers themselves, and resolution of retinal vessels 30μ in diameter.Keywords
