Abstract
PSYCHOGENIC urinary retention has often been postulated, but rarely documented. Williams and Johnson1 reported a case in 1956 and stated, "to the best of our knowledge, no such case has been presented previously in the literature." Since then, Chapman2 and Knox3 have each described 1 case of urinary retention based on psychiatric factors. Two additional cases of urinary retention due to emotional disturbance, recently seen at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital, are reported below.Case ReportsCase 1. S. (P.B.B.H. 5R93), a 17-year-old student, entered the hospital on November 22, 1960, because of vague left-flank pain of 1 month's duration. . . .Keywords
