The Bronchodilator Action of Khellin

Abstract
Khellin was used in 12 patients with clinical bronchospasm. The expiratory flow rate was improved in 3 cases of chronic asthma by 64% -239%, and in 2 cases of chronic bronchitis with emphysema by 18%-26%. Khellin is slow to act but its action lasts over a 24- to 48-hr. period. When combined with epinephrine in an inhalation mixture it appears to be additive, suggesting the mode of action of the 2 drugs to be different. Both intramusc. and oral prepns. were used, oral "enteric-protected" tablets having fewer side effects (mainly nausea).
