Abstract
Bartter''s syndrome characteristically exhibits the constellation of hypokalemic alkalosis, normotensive hyperreninism, hyperaldosteronism, hyporesponsiveness to pressor agent and juxtaglomerular cell hyperplasia. Metabolic mimicry of Bartter''s syndrome by vomiting, diarrhea, laxative and diuretic abuse was reported. A 30 yr old female patient developed pseudo-Bartter''s syndrome as the result of surreptitious self-administration of furosemide for .apprx. 6 yr. Calcification of bilateral renal medulla was demonstrated. Such adverse reaction has not been reported to date. Cases (14) of pseudo-Bartter''s syndrome reported in Japanese literature were reviewed.This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
