Abstract
A spectroscopic study of the light emitted from the vapor zone around the evaporation source in gas evaporation has been carried out. Spectra were photographed with a glass prism spectrograph, and electronic band spectra due to dimers were revealed for Cu, Ag and Au. The blue color of the Cu vapor zone is ascribed to the A-X and B-X band systems of Cu2, violet of Ag to the A-X band system of Ag2, and green of Au to the A-X and B-X band systems of Au2. The continuous spectra due to Rayleigh scattering by fine particles grown in the gas phase have also been observed. Keywords
