Model systems for analysis of latent cytomegalovirus infections

Abstract
The feasibility of using in vitro models of murine cytomegalovirus infection, which can be used for studying the mechanisms involved in the establishment, maintenance and perturbation of the latent infection, is investigated. Two such model systems, G0 phase mouse fibroblast 3T3 cells and mouse spleen cells, are described. Evidence for transmission of the viral genome from mother to fetus is also documented.
