Abstract
Optical studies on the absorption and emission of impurity ions in Mg are reported. It is found that the spin-forbidden transitions for these impurities are greatly enhanced by the presence of radiation defects. The spin-allowed transitions are not similarly enhanced. The sharp line structure accompanying several of these transitions is discussed as is the annealing of the radiation damage.
