Abstract
The germination of seeds of papaya and other species was drastically inhibited by the arils of papaya seeds. Seed extracts contained growth-regulating substances, including a gibberellin-like substance, two cytokinin-like substances and both acidic and neutral inhibitors. The reaction of the inhibitors with FeCl3 solution suggests that these substances are possibly of a phenolic nature. Keywords
