Abstract
Cis-Diamminedi-chloroplatinum (DDP) was administered to 14 patients with bladder carcinoma recurring at the original site; the cases were analyzed histologically. All the patients had received multiple therapy previously. The tumors treated included the following: 8 superfical tumors not infiltrating the chorion, 4 tumors involving the chorion, 1 tumor involving the internal muscle layer and one tumor in situ. The age range of the patients was 52-81 yr with a mean of 69.6 yr. Administration was by intra-vesical instillation of 100 mg of DDP each week for the 1st 6 wk, then every 2 wk for the next 2 mo. followed by once a mo. Results were assessed on the basis of endoscopic appearance, cytology and, where applicable, biopsy. Among the superficial tumors not infiltrating the chorion, results were as follows: 3 complete remissions of durations of 8 mo., 5 mo. and > 2 mo.; 3 partial remissions of 7 mo., 6 mo. and 5 mo.; and 2 minor remissions of 5 mo. and 2 mo:. There were no failures. Among tumors invading the chorion, results were as follows: 1 complete response lasting for 10 mo; 2 minor remissions of short duration: 2 mo and 2 mo; and 1 failure. Treatment of the 1 tumor invading the internal layer of muscle was a failure. Finally, the tumor in situ was difficult to evaluate but showed a complete response lasting for 2 mo.
