Sociocultural Studies of Schizophrenia

Abstract
This paper is a review and analysis of various studies of schizophrenia. The two major approaches to schizophrenia are derived from the "soft" diagnosis which has its roots in psychoanalytic theory, learning theory, socialization theory, and anomie theory and the "hard" diagnosis which stems from Kraepelin's classical work on dementia praecox. We must reject narrow approaches and move to new levels of synthesis if we are to solve the riddle of schizophrenia.
