Abstract
IN the case reported below, an anaphylactic reaction was attributed to penicillinase therapy.† This drug has previously been reported to be nontoxic and safe for use in some 25,000 to 50,000 inoculations1 and undoubtedly forms an invaluable aid in the treatment of allergic reactions due to penicillin. However, penicillinase is a protein enzyme obtained from Bacillus cereus, Escherichia coli and numerous strains of staphylococci, and the distinct possibility that allergic manifestations arise from the use of this drug must now be considered. This article is an attempt to elucidate the potential mechanism of allergy when no supposedly previous exposure to . . .Keywords
