Abstract
Shoot proliferation of Artemisia annua L. was achieved in modified Murashige and Skoog medium supplemented with 1.0 mg/liter 6-benzylamino purine (BA). Shoots removed from culture and dipped in 3000 ppm indolebutyric acid, rooted and acclimated to in vivo conditions using mist. Artemisinin was produced in vitro and ranged from 0.4 to 0.7 mg/g dry weight. Of four growth regulators tested (BA kinetin, butanedioic-2, 2-dimethylhydrazide, and chlormequat chloride), only BA at 1.0 mg/.iter and kinetin at 10.0 mg/liter increased yield of artemisinin in vitro, but this effect was due to an increase in dry matter production which overcame a decrease in artemisinin content. Keywords
