Abstract
A total of 156 male Sprague Dawley rats, irradiated by body exposure with a single dose of 500 r or by 3 exposures of 350 r. and after a period of 12 to 24 months, are autopsied. In control rats, histologic studies of the testicles show regressive changes of old age; testicular atrophy, peritubular fibrosis, thickening of the basement membrane, and aspermatogenesis. In 7 of the 63 control rats testicular tumors are usually of the microscopic variety and are multiple or cystic. In the irradiated rats, 39 testicular tumors are found and there seemed to be an age relationship. In this series, the largest number were interstitial cell tumors (29). The rest included seminoma (2), fibrosarcoma (2) tubular adenoma (2), embryonal carcinoma (2).Keywords
