Abstract
The Secretary‐General discusses the problems of human environment, drawing attention to the dangers facing mankind, as a result of technological advances, and the imbalance between man's demands and resources available. Other dangers are the population explosion and rapid urbanization. This conflict between man and his environment calls for a reexamination of a whole range of questions concerning producers and consumers. Urgent and sensible action is advocated to deal with the serious problems of man's depredations. A global authority is suggested, in close association with the United Nations, to direct operations.
