Abstract
The flow structure, spectrum, and luminosity are calculated for a model of a plane shock wave followed by a region in which the shock-heated gas cools to a low temperature and is compressed to very high densities. These calculations are compared with observations of the Cygnus Loop filaments, assuming that they are such regions viewed edge-on. The agreement is very good for reasonable choices of model parameters.
