Abstract
The identification of 3-hydroxy-3-ethylglutarate and 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutarate via g.l.c.–m.s. and high-resolution liquid chromatography, and their mode of radiolabelling from [1-14C]propionyl- plus acetyl-CoA (or [1-14C]acetyl- plus propionyl-CoA) incubated with cell-free preparations of Manduca sexta corpora cardiaca–corpora allata complexes, is in agreement with their hypothetical role as intermediates of juvenile hormone biosynthesis. Keywords
