Abstract
Fixed-bed pyrolysis experiments have been conducted on a sample of cottonseed cake to determine the possibility of being a potential source of renewable fuels and chemical feedstocks. The effects of healing rate, pyrolysis atmosphere, and pyrolysis temperature on the pyrolysis product yields and chemical compositions have been investigated. The maximum oil yield of 27% was obtained in N2 atmosphere at pyrolysis temperature of 550°C and heating rate of 7°C min -1. The chemical characterization has shown that the oil obtained from cottonseed cake was quite similar to the crude oil and shale oil. Keywords
