Observation of Ion Heating Using a Modulated Electron Beam in a Magnetic Mirror Field

Abstract

The interaction of a modulated electron beam of modest current with a plasma formed in a hydrogen gas produces protons with energies up to several hundred electron volts. The energetic proton flux from the plasma is dependent on the beam current and modulation frequency.
