Abstract
Blue tits are shown to forage intensively on male and female willow [Salix spp.] catkins, apparently feeding mainly on nectar. Observations of their rate of foraging in relation to the amount of nectar that is produced indicate that willow nectar may be a major energy source for blue tits during early spring. They may also be effective pollinators, transferring pollen from male to female plants. This publication has 4 references indexed in Scilit:
