Abstract
The general theory of the induction and of the free decay of electric currents in a semi-infinite conductor with a plane boundary is considered. The solutions of the fundamental equations are of two types, which correspond to two distinct modes of decay of currents in the conductor. The properties of these modes are investigated. Detailed calculations are made of the induced field and currents produced by a periodic or aperiodic line current parallel to the face of the conductor, and the method of calculation for any other inducing fields is indicated. An explanation is given of the indeterminate character of certain problems. Keywords
