Abstract
A total of 35 Burcell''s zebra, E. burchelli, were shot for arthropod parasite recovery during the period from Nov. 1978-Jan. 1982 in the Kruger National Park. Six species of gasterophilid larvae [Gasterophilus haemorrhoidalis; G. inermis, G. meridionalis, G. nasalis, G. pecorum and G. ternicinctus], 2 spp. of oestrid larvae [Rhinoestrus steyni and R. usbekistanicus], 2 louse species [Damalinia sp. and Haematopinus sp.] and 7 ixodid tick species [Amblyomma hebraeum, Boophilus decoloratus, Hyalomma truncatum, Rhipicephalus appendiculatus, R. evertsi evertsi, R. simus and R. zambeziensis] were recovered. The distribution of the Gasterophilus spp. larvae within the gastrointestinal tract and their seasonal prevalence were determined. The seasonal prevalence of the oestrid larvae and 4 of the 7 ixodid tick species was also ascertained.
