Abstract
According to the literature, Aedes notoscriptus, one of New Zealand's three exotic species of mosquitoes, is absent from all parts of the North Island south of Gisborne. Larval habitat surveys have now revealed widespread establishment in the Wellington region of this diurnal pest and potential vector of canine dirofilariasis. The unearthing of a hitherto unpublished finding of the species at Upper Hutt in 1973 has helped assessment of this invasion's importance and likely history. Keywords
