Abstract
This study evaluates the possibilities and limitations of the investigation of paint media by , differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). For the first time, particular care was taken to include a large number of samples and a large range of media, and to examine thoroughly the influence of the pigments present. The investigation was carried out on samples from test panels which date from the beginning of this century. The simple experimental procedure, without any sample preparation, allowed a rough characterization of most paint media. The limitations are discussed in detail. Differential scanning calorimetry shows promise as an addition to common techniques of paint media analysis. Keywords
