Follower Reactions to Male and Female Leaders Who Maintain or Lose Reward Power

Abstract
This study investigated the effects on group member satisfaction and communication behavior when male and female leaders either maintained or lost reward power during problem-solving sessions. Subjects who worked with leaders who lost reward power were more satisfied with their leaders and more intrinsically satisfied than were subjects who interacted with leaders who maintained reward power regardless of ledder gender. Con-versely, group member communication was more substantive and positive when leaders maintained reward power than when they lost it. Communication behavior was also affected by leader gender.
