Abstract
The viscosity behavior of a high molecular weight fraction (M̄w = 9.8 × 106) of dextran (B‐512) in aqueous solutions was studied at low and medium shear stresses, and its intrinsic viscosity was shown to be independent of shear stress. A convenient and precise multibulb Ubbelohde‐type viscometer, especially designed for use with aqueous solutions is described. The calibration of the viscometer and the evaluation of surfacetension corrections of relative flow times measured in it are discussed in detail.
