Abstract
Several of the important fluid dynamics problems en countered in the design, analysis, and control of cardio- circulatory assist devices are well suited to examination (and solution) by hybrid computer simulation. The simulation approach to the analysis and control synthesis for a particular left ventricular assist blood pump, pneumatic drive system, and experimental animal is presented. This includes a hybrid computer simulation of this system, sensitivity analysis, solution for control parameters, and description of a computer monitoring and control system to regulate the assist device.
