Abstract
The residual stresses, introduced into high-tensile steel chains during their manufacture as the result of the application of a manufacturing test load, have been determined by the neutron diffraction technique. The results are consistent with finite element calculations and with the effects of the manufacturing test load on the fatigue properties of the chains. Keywords
