Abstract
Drosophila auraria, consisting of 3 races, A, B and C, is distributed geographically in the whole country of Japan, in south Korea, and possibly in China. Race A appears to be the most domestic form among the 3, but race B is characterized as the most wild form, and race C is intermediate between A and B. The distribution area of race A is much wider than those of B and C, and the former apparently covers the latter 2. The food habits of the 3 races seem to differ in its range in the order, race A > race C > race B. It has been suggested that race A may be the ancestral form of the species Auraria, on the basis of geographical distribution of the 3 races. The question has remained unsettled whether race C has originated from natural hybridization and between B.
