Abstract
The authors present a calculation that reproduces the qualitatively unusual first-order phase boundary in the p-T plane observed for SmS. It is based on an essentially localised model of the Sm 5d electrons. It is noted that the existing data suggest that the conventional band model is probably inconsistent with this boundary, and the authors indicate the additional data needed to settle the question. Keywords
