Abstract
The Lawrence Livermore Laboratory Octopus network includes a central storage facility of over 10-12 bits. This facility is accessed through a directory mechanism which permits flexible organization and general sharing of files by many time-sharing users. The chief problems of the system are not unusual: the maintenance of high transfer rates, of reliability and availability, and of sufficient storage capacity. Keywords
