Abstract
The organic retentions for (d,p), (n,2n), and (γ,n) activation of iodine in liquid methyl and ethyl iodide, containing added iodine, have been found to be equal to the retentions observed in radiative neutron capture. This demonstrates that the chemical effects are independent of the recoil energy of the activated nucleus, of the mode of nuclear formation, and of variation of fragmentation effects within the recoil track. In the absence of scavenger iodine, the increase in retention due to radiation damage is less than 10 percent in all cases studied. Keywords
