Synthesis and X-ray analysis of the hydrido-carbido-monoanion [HOs10C(CO)24]; a cluster compound with an interstitial hydrogen ligand in a tetrahedral site

Abstract
Protonation of the carbido-dianion [Os10C(CO)24]2– with cone. H2SO4gives [HOs10C(Co)24] and H2Os10C(CO)24; from X-ray analyses of the [Ph4As]+ and [Ph3MeP]+ salts of the hydrido-monoanion, which show a structure with a close-packed carbonyl distribution virtually identical to that of the dianion, it may be deduced that this is the first example of an H-ligand in a tetrahedral site of a polynuclear carbonyl species.
