On the Role of the Nitrogen Atom in Dynemicin A

Abstract
The dynemicin analogs 13a,b have been synthesized from the cyclohexenone derivative 8b via the enediyne aldehyde 12. NMR analysis indicates that 13a,b exist as rotamers around the C-aryl bond. This points to the role of the nitrogen atom in dynemicin A for fixation of the conformation of the aryl ring.
