Abstract
Effect of lung volume on alveolar gas composition at the breaking point of breath holding was studied. It was found that breath holding on large volumes resulted in a) higher RER, b) higher breaking point PC02, c) higher breaking point Po2 and d) the same breath holding breaking point curve. This study does not support the thesis that the breath holding breaking point curve may be penetrated by breath holding on large volumes. Keywords
