Abstract
It is postulated that certain dietary habits of rats are based on food texture and thus are not necessarily indicative of a high "nutritional I.Q." Rats on adequate diet in separate cages fed a supplement alternately of dry corn kernels, or kernels soaked 24-48 hrs. in water, consistently preferred the moistened kernels. Similarly rats fed soaked or softened green and soya beans refused them in the dried state. Bulk-formers introduced into the rat diet likewise were accepted according to the texture of the bulk material. Keywords
