Die Bedeutung des Tuber cinereum des Zwischenhirns für das Zustandekommen der Geschlechtsreifung

Abstract
Bilateral destruction of the hypo-thalamus in the region of the tuber cinereum inhibited puberty in infantile rabbits. The gonads regressed and the rabbits remained infantile throughout life. In contrast to the known disturbances of other vegetative processes, the effects on the gonads were regular and irreversible. There was no significant effect on growth. Unilateral destruction of the tuber cinereum caused the same effect on the gonads, though with a less marked influence. Destruction of the mammilary body had no effect on puberty. Gonadotrophic functions of the ant. pituitary appeared to be completely under the influence of this diencephalic sex-center in the tuber cinereum.
