Abstract
The phase space beam analyser (PSBA) is described in second-order terms of the diffraction integral (Collins integral). Expressions are derived for the intensity distributions in the observation plane and for the second moments. The spatial and angular resolutions are calculated and optimized. Analytical solutions are presented for an apodized slit and the fundamental mode. Keywords
