A New Fluorescence and Kinyoun’s Acid-fast Stain

Abstract
A new method of acid-fast staining is described. This consists of the staining with auramine O and Kinyoun’s carbol fuchsin, decolorizing with an acid alcohol methylene blue counterstain. The method is compared with other staining methods. The staining procedure requires far less time than either the fluorescence or the traditional methods alone. The screening with fluorescence and confirming with routine microscopy eliminates the repeating of smears for confirmation.
