Abstract
This paper describes the movements of the terminal face of the Franz Josef Glacier and to a lesser extent the Fox Glacier, which have been observed more or less continuously on a yearly basis since 1951. The retreat of the Franz Josef Glacier from 1951 until the end of its recession in May 1965 amounted to 1,500 m (5,000 ft) and its re-advance until August 1967 amounted to 380 m (1,250 ft). A survey in October 1967 showed no advance of the terminal face from the August position. The paper is accompanied by photographs and maps showing changes in the position of the terminal face. Keywords
