Abstract
A single‐crystal 181Ta‐NMR experiment was performed in KTaO3 in an unsuccessful attempt to observe the splitting pattern characteristic of electric hexadecapole coupling. A linewidth of about 12 kHz was observed, and assigned to residual first‐order quadrupole couplings arising from imperfections in this nominally cubic crystal. Experimental difficulties prevented the removal of the electric quadrupole (and magnetic dipole–dipole) couplings by multiple‐pulse linenarrowing methods. Keywords
